let me re-cap my story and then bring you up to today. i had this job for about 7 1/2 years and really liked it. it started going down hill about three years ago. i will not go into detail because i get very upset just thinking about it. i started really looking for a job last (2007) summer. well, i came across this one at
umc and thought i had landed something good. well i talked to the lady about three times and then on that third time said "oh, by the way, what is the pay". when she told me i started crying, because i knew i couldn't take that big of a pay cut. i told her thank you so much for talking to me and she told me good luck in the job search. she was such a very nice person. she told me she was upset that i couldn't take the job as well. o.k. so moving on,
october 2007 rolled around and i got this call from a lady. at first i didn't understand who she was, or what she said. i just heard are you still looking for a job? i say yes, and who is this again? she told me
virginia carlton with the court of appeals and you have been highly recommended for this position that is available in my office. at first i still could understand who it was and where she was calling from. she called me on my cell phone and it was breaking up very bad. anyway, i agreed to meet with her on
october 11, 2007. i called kyle and told him about what had just happen and he laughed and said "
alison virginia carlton is a judge with the ms court of appeals". then i realize what was going on. so i went and met with her and she afford me the job that day. only thing is i couldn't say anything until judge
southwick got appointed for the federal court. judge
southwick had to be appointed before i got the job so i would call my friend at
sentor trent lott's office for about two weeks asking when was this going to come up for a vote and she would say not today, not today. so she told me she would call me when it would come up for vote. well
october 22, 2007 judge
southwick was
finally appointed to the federal court after about two long years of waiting. judge
carlton call me that day and told me that the position is now open. o.k. let me fill you in on the position, a lady that worked for the judge was going to go with judge
southwick when he got appointed and i was going to take her place. so i told judge
carlton that i accept the position and when would you want me to start work. she said "as fast as you can". well i had to tell my other judges (i worked at the hinds county chancery court as a court administrator) that i was leaving, but they were not there because this was the annual court administrator and judges seminar. so i couldn't even tell anyone about this new job until after i told my judges that i was leaving. it was very hard. i only told kyle, my parents, and some very close friends that i knew wouldn't tell anyone about what was going on. so, after coming back from the seminar i told the judges that i was leaving and the end of
october was my last day. yes, i know i didn't give a two weeks notice, but at that time in my life i really didn't care i wanted out!!!! so i started to work with the ms court of appeals as a judicial assistant to judge
virginia carlton on
november 5, 2007 and oh what a joy it has been. i am (well at least i think i am) such a better person to be around, i am happier to be around and i will stay until i retire. so thanks to the person that highly recommended me for the job with the
coa and thanks to judge carlton for interview me for the postition, because i am loving everyday that i am there...........
